Before the works

This pleasant flat in a converted property situated in Archway, North London was going to undertake a floor transformation, comprising of replacement of all carpets throughout with engineered wood flooring.

For the floor installation the client selected Holt Wykenham - a 14 mm, engineered oak click system plank in a beautiful dark brown, matt lacquered finish.

One of the main challenges in this installation was to fit the flooring product along 3 flight of stairs.

How we did it...

Although the floors were covered throughout by carpets during our initial survey, we could identify that the subfloor comprises mainly by original pine floorboards.

During our work, which had to be completed in stages due to furniture in the rooms, we have made sure all floorboards are properly refitted after removal of the carpets.

The new engineered flooring was laid in the rooms and we had to dedicate a fair amount of skill and planning on fitting this 14 mm product on the stairs. Of course our flooring installation had to start from the first step on each level, however we left most of the stair works last.

The stair nosings supplied for the product, were an excellent click match, but were unfinished. At FloorWorks we provide a colour matching service, for almost any flooring accessory - something our service is quite proud of.

Most of the steps had an open end on the side of a banister, so after having all nosing colour matched, we had to create an additional, white painted flat profile.

When stairs are fitted a new nosing is installed on the front (and side) perimeter of the step. To make this possible, the old nosing has to be removed and this can expose an area of the step, which the new nosing may not be able to cover. Especially with nosings for 14 mm thick engineered products, which are much more compact than others.

With help of our white painted flat profile, to match the paint of the rest of the stair case side boards, we have managed to create stairs installation solution, which did not require any further decoration or painting.
