How We Carried Out This Oak Parquet Flooring Renovation
Restoring parquet flooring demands a level of precision and expertise beyond that of standard plank flooring, primarily because it's composed of numerous small wooden blocks meticulously arranged to form intricate patterns. Before any sanding commenced, our Floorworks™ technicians undertook a critical pre-sanding inspection. This involved carefully checking the entire 29 sqm area for loose blocks or areas of hollowness, which can compromise the integrity of the floor during sanding and lead to an uneven finish. Any identified loose blocks were meticulously re-adhered using professional-grade wood adhesives, and hollow spots were addressed to ensure a stable and uniform surface for the subsequent stages. This foundational repair work is paramount for achieving a lasting, high-quality restoration.
The oak parquet flooring sanding process itself was a multi-stage operation, executed with the utmost care to preserve the integrity of the unique pattern. We began by using coarser grit abrasives to effectively level the entire timber floor, carefully removing years of accumulated dirt, stubborn stains, and the degraded surface layer. This initial pass was crucial for establishing a perfectly flat canvas. We then progressively transitioned to finer grit abrasives, methodically refining the wood's surface, eliminating any residual marks from the coarser grits, and bringing out the natural beauty and grain of the oak. The final preparation step before sealing involved a thorough buffing of the entire area. This process, utilising a high-speed rotary buffer with very fine pads, created an incredibly smooth and receptive surface, optimising the adhesion of the forthcoming finishes and ensuring a flawless, silky-smooth appearance.
Our comprehensive project included the complete restoration of approximately 29 square meters of oak parquet flooring, culminating in a stunning matt lacquer finish. The sealing process was applied with meticulous attention to detail to maximise both durability and aesthetic appeal. To ensure an impeccably smooth and durable finish, light buffing was carefully performed between each coat of lacquer, promoting optimal inter-coat adhesion and a superior final appearance.
