Fitting Kahrs Oak Lava Engineered Wood Flooring on Stairs Landings

Kahrs Oak Lava from Harmony collection installed on stairs and landings in this Neasden home in North London.

Before the works

This engineered flooring installation was focused entirely on fitting stairs and landings with Kahrs flooring - more specifically our client was after Kahrs Oak Lava form Kahrs Harmony collection, installed with matching the floor nosing supplied by Kahrs.

How we did it...

Like with all installations of thinner engineered flooring products, this one would start with assessing the level of the subfloor (original victorian floorboards), which in this case was not appropriate and we had to make sure it is prepared with 12 mm plywood before the installation.

The Kahrs Oak Lava is a 14 mm plank with a click system and such flooring products are usually quite sensitive to the subfloor level.

Like with all installations of new flooring on stairs the existing nosing is removed and a new, matching the floor nosing is fitted to join the new vertical and horisontal planks. Original Kahrs nosing were supplied for this installation.

The nosings on most 14 mm flooring products are quite shallow (due to lack of thickness) and after the installation they would not revert to the original depth of the step. Luckily, the original steps in this property were quite wide and therefore the absence of the additional size was unnoticeable.

Did you know this about oak flooring?

Oak is the king. It is hard, beautiful and resilient. While all other timbers may change colour and shape with time, oak does not (or very little) - it is eternal. Because its quite popular, oak planks and blocks, are available in various sizes when repairs to oak floors and parquet are needed.
