Before the works...

The original floorboards in the hall of St Lukes Church in Watford, WD17 was looking tired and in serious need of renovation. During our obligation-free survey, we did detailed inspection of the wooden floors & discussed with the church board all possible choices and provided by detailed quote to include full restoration with 4 coats of commercial grade lacquer - Bona Traffic HD, some local repairs and re-application of line markings for badminton / tennis.

Our client has decided to trust the restoration original floorboards of St Lukes Church to Floorworks and choose matt sheen of the lacquer.

How we completed this pine floorboards renovation...

The thickness of the pine floorboards used in public spaces, such as church halls or shcools are originally approx. 25 - 30 mm when laid. Pine timber shrinks with the time and also becomes thinner every time the floors are restored. There is a nominal thickness, after which floorboards cannot be restored any more, however this was not the case in St Lukes Church.

At this stage our team will inspect carefully the floorboards and also advise if any further repairs or floorboards replacement may be recommended prior to the floor restoration works.

During the floorboards restoration, the original floors are going through a process of levelling with coarser grids, finishing with finer grids, and finally buffing, prior to sealing & between the coats, for excellent results.

Our works included approx. 173 sqm pine floorboards floor sanding and finishing in matt lacquer. The sealing went down with 1 coat of primer and 3 coats of Bona Traffic lacquer.

During the application of the finish and before the final coat, we have also applied the line markings in 2 stages. The final coat of lacquer applied above the white sport lines paint, is to protect the lines from wearing.

Overall, this floor sanding project in Watford was completed as scheduled and to the delight of the client.
