• Is it possible to restore 3-Strip engineered wood flooring?

  Three strip oak floorings usually come with 3 mm top layers and unless it has been sanded before it should be possible to restore. Once the existing sealant is completely removed through the sanding process, is perfectly fine to change the sealant from lacquer oil.

  Before you make the final decision on the most appropriate type of sealant for your engineered wood flooring restoration, bear in mind that oiled floors require more frequent maintenance and re-oiling to ensure long lasting protection.

• Do you sand bamboo flooring?

  While bamboo (as final product) is not exactly timber, it is possible to sand and varnish bamboo flooring. However, bamboo floor sanding needs to be done with extreme care and it requires a specific approach and highly skillful flooring technicians. We will not recommend sanding and varnishing bamboo flooring yourself.  Bamboo floor sealing, for example, requires the application of solvent based, rather than water-based sealants. Also, wood floor staining is not recommended on bamboo floors.

• How long does it take for lacquered floors to dry?

  Lacquered (or varnished) floors generally dry quicker to the touch than oiled floors. You can typically walk on lacquered floors with light foot traffic (e.g., in socks) within 2 to 4 hours after the final coat. However, similar to oils, the lacquer needs a longer time to fully cure and achieve its maximum hardness and resistance to scratches and dents.

• Can you oil a wooden floor without sanding?

  Yes, it is possible to re-oil a wooden floor without full sanding if the existing oil finish is still largely intact and the wood itself is not deeply scratched, stained, or damaged. This process is often referred to as "refreshing" or "maintenance oiling." It involves thoroughly cleaning the floor with a specialised wood floor cleaner, and then applying a fresh, thin coat of oil. This method rejuvenates the existing finish, restores its lustre, and replenishes the oil within the wood, extending its life without the need for abrasive sanding. However, if the floor has significant wear, deep scratches, or areas where the wood is exposed, sanding will be necessary to achieve an even and durable restoration.

• How long does it take for an oiled floor to dry?

  For an oiled wood floor, the initial drying time for light foot traffic typically ranges from 4 to 12 hours after the final coat, depending on the specific oil product used and environmental conditions like humidity and temperature in your home or premises. However, it's crucial to understand that "dry to touch" does not mean fully cured. For the oil to reach its maximum hardness and durability, allowing for heavy furniture placement and normal traffic, a full curing period of 5 to 14 days, and sometimes up to 30 days, is recommended. Adequate ventilation during this period is essential to facilitate proper curing.
