Can Engineered Wood Flooring be Sanded & Resealed?

See What Our Clients from Chislehurst Say About Us...

★★★★★
Excellent advise and expertise from Martin who saved us a lot of headache by tailoring engineered wood flooring installation to our needs. Being inexperienced in home renovations, our original project was to just sand and fill our base floor boards. I had previously spoken to about 5 independent flooring contractors, neither of which considered that our bedroom would be completely exposed to noise, smell and weather. With Martin’s help we got the right underlay and beautiful engineered wood floors installed super quick and professional!

Your Questions Answered..

Do you have a flooring question, which you seek professional advice on? Why not ask our flooring experts directly?

Do you sand bamboo flooring?

While bamboo (as final product) is not exactly timber, it is possible to sand and varnish bamboo flooring. However, bamboo floor sanding needs to be done with extreme care and it requires a specific approach and highly skillful flooring technicians. We will not recommend sanding and varnishing bamboo flooring yourself. Bamboo floor sealing, for example, requires the application of solvent based, rather than water-based sealants. Also, wood floor staining is not recommended on bamboo floors.
Oak stained in dark wood base and white grain effect

Hi,
This example is shown on oak timber. This type of finish is achieved by application of Active Stain on top of oak timber, flollowed by application of white hardwax-oil on top - buffed in and sealed with another clear coat of oil on top.
Some active stains are available from Woca (Active stain 1, 2, 3 and 4) and white oils are available from Osmo, Fiddes, Treatex (and other brands).
The process of active stain is slow - takes about a day and oils are slow-drying. It may be worth looking for a pre-finished product with similar appearance, instead of starting from scratch on bare wood.
Hope this helps.
Dog urine stains removal from an oak engineered flooring

Urine stains on timber floors can be particularly challenging to remove. Ideally, the stains should be cleaned up immediately, as it's not just the liquid but the compounds in the urine that cause discoloration. Unfortunately, urine tends to penetrate deep into the wood. So, restoration (floor sanding & refinishing) will not be an option in this case.
The best solution is often to replace the affected planks. Going with the option for the local replacement of planks is the best approach for the floor repairs, however, this requires having spare planks that match your existing flooring. If that's the case, please let us know and we can arrange a free site visit, to see how we can help with this.

And Some Frequently Asked Questions...

Are there eco-friendly or low-VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) finish options available?

Yes, absolutely. There's a growing demand for environmentally conscious building practices, and the flooring industry has responded with numerous eco-friendly and low-VOC finish options, which are offered by Floorworks™. These typically include water-based lacquers and natural oils/hardwax oils.
Can I change the color of my parquet flooring with restoration service?

Yes, you can absolutely change the colour of your parquet flooring during the restoration service. Once the existing finish is sanded away, leaving the raw wood exposed, it becomes a blank canvas. This is the ideal stage to apply a wood stain before the final clear protective finish (oil or lacquer). At Floorworks™ we offer a wide range of stain colours, from lighter washes to darker, richer tones, allowing you to completely transform the aesthetic of your parquet to suit your interior design vision.
Can water damaged parquet flooring be restored?

The restorability of water-damaged parquet flooring depends on the extent and duration of the water exposure. Minor water damage, such as light surface spills that are quickly cleaned, often results in only surface discolouration or slight swelling, which can typically be rectified through professional sanding and refinishing.
