Do you sand bamboo flooring?

While bamboo (as final product) is not exactly timber, it is possible to sand and varnish bamboo flooring. However, bamboo floor sanding needs to be done with extreme care and it requires a specific approach and highly skillful flooring technicians. We will not recommend sanding and varnishing bamboo flooring yourself. Bamboo floor sealing, for example, requires the application of solvent based, rather than water-based sealants. Also, wood floor staining is not recommended on bamboo floors.
Oak stained in dark wood base and white grain effect

Hi,
This example is shown on oak timber. This type of finish is achieved by application of Active Stain on top of oak timber, flollowed by application of white hardwax-oil on top - buffed in and sealed with another clear coat of oil on top.
Some active stains are available from Woca (Active stain 1, 2, 3 and 4) and white oils are available from Osmo, Fiddes, Treatex (and other brands).
The process of active stain is slow - takes about a day and oils are slow-drying. It may be worth looking for a pre-finished product with similar appearance, instead of starting from scratch on bare wood.

Make teak parquet flooring colour lighter or keep it natural

Hi Amy,
Before sealing, unfinished teak can resemble oak in its light color. However, once sealed, teak typically darkens to a rich brownish hue.
Like other exotic timbers, teak can be tricky to seal with normal water-base primers and lacquers. It will leave darker shaded streaks in areas where the roller has overcoated the previous pass. To avoid this, a solvent-based primer is used, e.g. Junckers SP Primer. This type of primer provides the best base for finishing exotic timbers, and it will make the original wood colour stand out even more with a rich, deep tone.
If you prefer to keep the unfinished look of the teak or make it lighter, the only options available will be to use invisible / raw lacquer, like the Bona Mega Natural lacquer (or similar), or stain the floors with white-tinted primer (whitewash), such as Bona White primer or Junckers Prelak White.
The challenge here is how to apply these products on teak timber and avoid roller marks during the application. Applying these finishes on teak can be challenging, and we highly recommend to have a professional with experience in exotic woods handle the application.
Ideally, timbers like teak, merbau, mahogany, walnut, jatoba should be left in their natural look.

Can I change the color of my parquet flooring with restoration service?

Yes, you can absolutely change the colour of your parquet flooring during the restoration service. Once the existing finish is sanded away, leaving the raw wood exposed, it becomes a blank canvas. This is the ideal stage to apply a wood stain before the final clear protective finish (oil or lacquer). At Floorworks™ we offer a wide range of stain colours, from lighter washes to darker, richer tones, allowing you to completely transform the aesthetic of your parquet to suit your interior design vision.
Can water damaged solid wood flooring be restored?

Similar to parquet, the possibility of restoring water-damaged solid wood flooring hinges on the severity of the damage. Minor surface water damage, which might cause some light staining or slight raising of the grain, can often be successfully addressed through sanding and refinishing.
Can you match the existing color of my parquet floor, or will it be different?

When restoring your parquet floor, our aim is to either match the existing colour or achieve your desired new colour. If you wish to retain the original look, we can often achieve a very close match by carefully selecting the finish (oil or lacquer) that brings out the wood's natural tone, or by using a light stain if the original floor had one. However, it's important to note that natural wood undergoes "patina" and UV exposure over time, so a perfectly identical match to an aged, un-sanded area (like under a rug) might be challenging. If you want a significant colour change, we can achieve this through staining the sanded wood before applying the final clear finish, allowing you to choose from a wide range of shades. We always recommend testing samples on your floor to ensure satisfaction with the colour.
