• Dog urine stains removal from an oak engineered flooring

  Urine stains on timber floors can be particularly challenging to remove. Ideally, the stains should be cleaned up immediately, as it's not just the liquid but the compounds in the urine that cause discoloration. Unfortunately, urine tends to penetrate deep into the wood. So, restoration (floor sanding & refinishing) will not be an option in this case.

  The best solution is often to replace the affected planks. Going with the option for the local replacement of planks is the best approach for the floor repairs, however, this requires having spare planks that match your existing flooring. • What is gap filling and how is it done?

  Gap filling usually refers to a procedure that is part of the floor restoration process, which uses a mixture of clear resin and saw dust, collected from the initial sanding and is used to fill in the gaps between the floorboards or between the parquet blocks. It is a very common service that often goes along with floorboards restoration and parquet floor sanding services. Sometimes, bigger gaps appear between the wooden planks and they require the use of wooden strips to be filled. This is called strip filling.

• Do you sand bamboo flooring?

  While bamboo (as final product) is not exactly timber, it is possible to sand and varnish bamboo flooring. However, bamboo floor sanding needs to be done with extreme care and it requires a specific approach and highly skillful flooring technicians. We will not recommend sanding and varnishing bamboo flooring yourself.  Bamboo floor sealing, for example, requires the application of solvent based, rather than water-based sealants. Also, wood floor staining is not recommended on bamboo floors.

• How long does it take for an oiled floor to dry?

  For an oiled wood floor, the initial drying time for light foot traffic typically ranges from 4 to 12 hours after the final coat, depending on the specific oil product used and environmental conditions like humidity and temperature in your home or premises. However, it's crucial to understand that "dry to touch" does not mean fully cured. For the oil to reach its maximum hardness and durability, allowing for heavy furniture placement and normal traffic, a full curing period of 5 to 14 days, and sometimes up to 30 days, is recommended. Adequate ventilation during this period is essential to facilitate proper curing.

• How much does it cost to restore my stairs?

  The cost to restore your stairs can vary significantly based on several factors, typically ranging from £800 to £1,200 or more for an average staircase. The main determinants of price include the condition of the stairs, the chosen finish (lacquer, oil or paint), and the complexity of the staircase design. Materials for high-quality finishes also contribute to the cost. For stairs, it's always best to obtain a detailed quote after a site visit, to get an accurate cost tailored to your specific staircase.

• How many coats of oil are included in your service?

  Our sanding and oiling service includes 2 coats of clear hardwax-oil or 1 coat of colour oil followed by 1 coat of clear oil.

  Depending on the timber species and its specific requirements, we can occasionally increase the number of coats to ensure optimal protection and finish.
